This track is for physicians intending a career in general pediatrics. The “medical home” is the primary care hub where the health care of children is centered, and pediatricians work with subspecialists to coordinate tertiary care. Through primary care, pediatricians are expected to have training in common pediatric subspecialties, including the following: pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology, to name a few.
Physicians in this track must be able to collaborate with other disciplines, understand the epidemiology of childhood illness, and work with new treatments and modalities within the changing health care environment. Residents will enhance their pediatrics subspecialty training by participating in electives and receive training in bioinformatics, the transition of care, and health care policy.
